Conflict-sensitive climate change adaptation: stakeholder workshop
Category: Climate Change
Event Start Date : 2011-01-25
Event End Date : 2011-01-25
Saferworld is an international non-governmental organisation that works in Nepal and elsewhere around the world to prevent and reduce violent conflict. Since September 2010, with support from the UK Department for International Development, it has been engaged in a project in support of Nepal’s Local Adaption Programme of Action (LAPA). The project was designed to help ensure that the LAPA does not have an adverse effect on peace and security in local communities. This has involved participatory field-research into local conflict dynamics in four selected areas of Nepal, and strengthening the capacities of local stakeholders to analyse natural resource based conflict, as well as accompaniment of four Nepali NGOs that have been piloting the LAPA. Following three months of research and participatory analysis, Saferworld is organising a workshop on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 25 when project participants will explain about the process and present lessons learnt from the project. The aim of this workshop is to share key findings with the Government of Nepal, international development partners and civil society, and to stimulate a debate about the implications for adaptation programming in Nepal. This event is by invitation only.
