UN World Food Programme Nepal (WFP) UN World Food Programme Nepal (WFP)

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency in the world.
As the largest provider of humanitarian assistance in Nepal, WFP works three fold – to eradicate immediate hunger, improve nutrition and help communities develop a more food secure future.

In 2011, WFP aims to provide food assistance to 1.6 million of the most vulnerable and hard to reach Nepalese, while at the same time assisting communities to build assets focusing on increasing market access and alternative livelihood and income generating opportunities.

As part of investing in human capital through education and nutrition, WFP Nepal supports 182,000 children with daily school meals, 54,000 girls with vegetable oil as incentive to attend school, 71,000 young children with a micronutrient supplement, and 31,000 mothers and young children with specialised health and nutritional care.

In addition, WFP provides food and nutrition support to 73,000 Bhutanese refugees living in Nepal.
