The general objective of the project is to strengthen forestry sector and its administration in order to play its corresponding role in Nepalese economy and society and to improve the provision of adequate forestry data and its processing for national forest policy development and for national level forestry sector decision making. The project aims to support the forest policy implementation, monitoring and information sharing among the broadly understood forest sector partnership. The project focuses on implementing consistent system for creating and sharing basic data in the key areas of forestry and bio-diversity. The project supports the forest policy implementation, monitoring and information sharing among the broadly understood forest sector partnership. This project provides support to collect the baseline information for activities related to Climate Change (CC), Reducing Emissions from Deforestation in Developing Countries (REDD) and pilot the carbon trade under REDD mechanism.

: Technical assistance is directed to four components: 1) implementation of national forest resource assessment, 2) implementation of national forest cover mapping, 3) forest information system research and development, and 4) project management.
